Meet John Arnold, the billionaire behind Arnold Ventures LLC
John Arnold’s massive Wall Street fortune enabled him to establish the Laura and John Arnold Foundation (now Arnold Ventures LLC ) with his wife in 2008. Since then, the power couple have leveraged the program to flex their muscles publicly, doling out hundreds of millions of dollars in grants. As of 2021, the Foundation reported holdings of nearly $3.2 billion, up from around $2.2 billion from just a few years earlier. Philanthropy is wonderful gift, but not when the Arnolds are motivated by their own self-interest. The Arnolds may use their foundation to limit taxes and pursue policies to benefit their own largesse. Worse yet, the former hedge fund trader often pursues destructive solutions to fix societal problems without regard to those impacted, including crime victims, nontraditional college students, and even regular Americans who want to live with their Constitutionally guaranteed right to privacy.6 things you need to know about John Arnold
